I have been receiving a lot of emails and questions about Web 2.0. As opposed to simply providing an explanation, the best way to demonstrate the next generation of web applications is through an example.

I like traffic.com. Real-time traffic information, overlayed onto a map to help you about your day. Although the cities currently are US only, this is a great example of what they call a Mash-Up. Basically, taking two or more services, combine them, to create a more useful service.

This is not being used in a variety of applications, but I really like what traffic.com represents. As mentioned, it currently have US cities, but what a great resource if you live or are visiting those cities and are looking for by-pass traffic.

One thing is for sure, when this becomes available in Canadian cities, you can sure bet that I will be using this type of site daily. The next evolution – directly streamed on your desktop or to your pda.

Great job – nice site with a very practical application.
